David looked down at the children. The magic tricks had gone well he thought. The three of clubs - they hadn't seen that one coming. Robbie Rabbit, a hit as always. He was tempted to do another twenty minutes.

Sausage fingers moving like lightning, he completed the balloon dog, and with the flourish of a consummate showman, presented it to the nearest child.

The boy looked bemused. The girl in the trolley started to cry.

"Could you please take your shopping and move along sir," said the checkout girl, "you're causing an obstruction."
